In 2020 during the total lockdown, Pilanesberg Platinum Mines (PPM) responded to President Cyril Ramaphosa’s call for assistance in looking after vulnerable people affected by the nationwide lockdown through the establishment of the PPM Covid-19 Community Relief Programme.
The programme supplied home-based care centres in the Bakgatla-Ba-Kgafela (BBK) community with food and essential hygiene products, that ran for the duration of the 2020 lockdown period.
PPM had partnered with its local stakeholders and community leaders to assist in identifying the home-based care centres that needed the most support. The first six centres received their care packages on 17 April 2020, while three more centres received their care packages at the end of April. Recipients of the care packages, not only care for the elderly, but also the young and the ill.
As part of its relief programme PPM was in consultation with relevant authorities. They delivered family care packages to local churches and schools that were distributed to vulnerable families within the community.
PPM will continue to answer the President’s call, finding gratitude and being charitable where possible.
